In September 2016 Eumundi local Wade James will Paddle Home on his ski from Noosa to his birthplace Bundaberg determined to raise the funds required to help Forget Me Not rescue more kids from orphanages and reunite them with their families. He also aims to raise awareness about orphanages in countries like Nepal where well-meaning volunteers and tourists have been proven to contribute to the demand for ‘orphans’ to fill orphanages.
Wade will set off on his Paddle Home from Noosa main beach on Saturday 10 September. We will celebrate his coastal journey and safe arrival in Bundaberg with a gala fundraising event on Friday 16 September at Brothers Sports Club.
“The rescued children who have come under the care of Forget Me Not have false records and identities, most are sick and all of them are traumatised.
The children have had little or no schooling and are behind their peers in numeracy and literacy.
Once I learned that over 85% of these kids in orphanages aren’t orphans and had parents, I knew that I had to try to help get these kids home.”
